Experience the ultimate holiday by mixing countryside with the seaside at the Old Post Office! Below are just some of the activities you can get up to when visiting Bridport and West Bay on the Jurassic Coast. Out of season and when you time it right during the summer, you can be exploring the gorgeous Jurassic coastline in under an hour. If you would like to experience the the top tourist spots, but want to retreat back to the peace and quiet of the countryside, the Old Post Office holiday cottage could be just right for you. It's dog friendly too!
Bridport is a thriving, bustling market town especially on Wednesdays and Saturdays when the street market is in full flow from around 8am util the afternoon. There are speciality markets that happen throughout the month also. Such as the Farmers Market every 2nd Saturday of the month, plus the Vegan and Craft Market on the third Saturday of every month. The stalls are of a wide variety, from antiques to craft, to vintage, to flowers, to fruit and vegetables.
The harbour at West Bay is a much loved location for visitors. It is a small little fishing harbour, that is also home to private boats with the opportunity to launch here also. Surrounding the harbour are a number of food outlets, antiques / eclectic vintage goods, paddle board hire, gift shops and not forgetting of course. Ice cream and fish and chips! We may be biased, but this little harbour is one of the prettiest. Full of hustle and bustle from visitors.
Remember Broadchurch starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman? This epic drama was filmed all around West Bay and the local area. You can retrace the steps of the characters and see all the spots you will be familiar with from the TV series. Unlike this photo however, we 100% do not recommend that you walk anywhere near or under the cliffs, just appreciate them from afar. The area is well known for its periodic rock falls.
Enjoy award-winning food in unique surroundings at The Station Kitchen. Situated in the old West Bay station house you can enjoy the most delightful dishes whilst sat in a choice of two rustic railway carriages on the old decommissioned tracks. The quirky luxe vintage interior design of the train carriages are exquisite. A fine dining twist on classic dishes, this is one for special occasions.
Surrounding the harbour, are independently owned food kiosks. One of these is Rachels and notorious for it's great seafood. They pride themselves on fresh, seasonal produce caught locally and served simply. Holidayers are known to return to Rachels year after year. There is a limited number of tables and benches outside the kiosk, but you can take your food away and find a spot nearer the beach and take in the sea views.
