This award-winning sandy beach is overlooked by a magnificent Georgian seafront, located at the heart of the Jurassic Coast. Weymouth Beach was award winner of the The Times' 2023 Great British Beach Guide. The gradual sloping seabed of the sheltered bay offers idyllic and safe conditions for all the family. There will also be one for fireworks night in November. Keep an eye out for announcements online regarding times.
Weymouth is really dog friendly. It has a dog exercise area on the main sandy beach (by the Pavilion), which allows dog walkers all year round. The whole beach is then opened up to dog walkers from the Greenhill Groyne to the dog exercise area from the 1st October to 30th April. Whilst Bowleaze Cove allows dogs all year round. There is of course the iconic Chesil Beach on the way to Portland, which allows dogs on leads to the outer flank (seaward side) of the beach from 1 September to 30 April.
Weymouth harbour is a beautiful location with lots to see and do. Here there is opportunity for families to go crab fishing, watch the draw bridge open and close to let the large sailing boats through, take a stroll to Nothe Fort or wander for an ice cream. The Harbour has recently benefitted from an area of redevelopment and now there are many a restaurant, pub or cafe to choose from. Of the summer there is plenty of live entertainment along this stretch and it is here, that you can get a boat ride to the bay, Portland or further afield.
If you're not into cycling, don't worry. This cafe is for everyone. Particularly mentioned on this web page because we love their food and drink offering. It is located in one of the coolest buildings in Weymouth, which was once the site of a former grain warehouse. It offers picturesque views across Weymouth’s colourful old harbour from its alfresco dining area to the front. The smoothies are scrummy and the food is delicious.
Would you like an authentic sea-to-plate dining experience serving fish and shellfish with unequivocal local provenance and landed just a few feet away? Imagine a building that contains a fishmongers, a seafood restaurant plus an alfresco area selling hot grilled fish street food. All selling fish caught that morning. This exists! They're on Weymouth harbour. Check them out.
There are a number of boat companies in the harbour that provide boat trips, which are are a great way to explore the coastline. From a 20 minute rib ride to the bay, or experience the stunning coast line further a far such as Durdle Door. Whether you're one for slower speed cruising, or prefer an exhilarating rib ride, you will find the boat trip that is perfect for you. Dolphins have been known to be spotted on the boat trips circling Portand!
